The Pair — Standing Sculpture

The Pair is a slender vertical form of two figures pressed close together, rising from a single shared stem. The silhouettes are deliberately simplified — smooth featureless heads, no arms, bodies merged into one undulating column — so the sculpture speaks of closeness itself rather than of particular people. A soft twist runs the length of the volume, as though drapery wrapped both figures in a single movement; toward the base the form widens and meets the ground with a gentle flare. The surface is matte, in a warm bone white with a subtle grain, while the dark rectangular base gives it a firm, contrasting footing.

The sculpture is handmade — modelled, smoothed and finished in stages, with no serial production involved. The course of the twist, the depth of the folds and the small irregularities in the surface all follow the movement of the hand, so no piece ever repeats another exactly — a natural quality of handcrafted work. The form looks well on a sideboard, a console, a shelf or a plinth, and with its clear, warm message of closeness it also makes a fitting wedding or anniversary gift.
