Archer — Standing Sculpture

Archer is a figure caught at the moment of drawing the bow, deliberately stripped of bodily continuity: what remains is a torso with a head, two outstretched arms and two feet on the base, with everything between them replaced by air. That absence is the central device — the viewer completes the figure, while the tension gathers in the gesture and in the gaze travelling along the arm. A slender curved rod forms the bow, cutting the composition vertically and giving it a sharp, drawn line. The body carries a green-turquoise patina with warm brown abrasions across the arms; the bow and flat base are finished in dark matte metal.

The sculpture is handmade — modelled, cast, assembled and patinated in stages, with no serial production involved. The distribution of the patina, its depth and the placement of the abrasions arise from the material's own reaction and from hand-finishing, so no piece ever repeats another exactly — a natural quality of handcrafted work. The form needs a pale background and room for the shadow it draws itself: it works well on a console, a sideboard, a desk or a plinth in a living room, a study or a representative space.
