Dawn — Wall Panel

Dawn is a narrow vertical wall panel with a clean rectangular outline and a deeply fluted surface. Hundreds of parallel horizontal ridges run the full height of the plate and act as a grid for light: at the top they dissolve into a cool silvery grey, while lower down they tighten and ignite into warm copper. The transition between these tones is not painted — it emerges from the play of shadow along the edges of the flutes, so the panel shifts with every step the viewer takes and with every hour of the day.

The piece is handmade — the flutes cut and finished one by one, the coloured patina built up in layers, with no serial production involved. The density of the ridges, the depth of the reflection and the exact point where the cool tone turns to copper are never repeated identically; these variations are the signature of handcrafted work. Its slim proportion suits narrow stretches of wall — beside a doorway, in a hall, along a stairwell, or hung as a symmetrical pair on either side of a piece of furniture.
