On the Edge — Wall Sculpture

On the Edge is a tall, narrow beam mounted vertically on the wall, with a small dark figure seated at its top, legs hanging freely over the side. The contrast of scale is the substance of the work: an immense silent column and a tiny figure on its brink create an image of calm suspension — not of danger, but of pause and observation. The beam carries a deep patina in shades of night blue and graphite, clouded with abrasions and lighter streaks that run diagonally like a record of water or smoke. The figure, finished in a warm dark bronze with faint golden highlights, is the single bright accent in the composition.

The piece is handmade — the beam formed and patinated in layers, the figure modelled and finished separately, with no serial production involved. The distribution of the coloured patina, its depth and the path of the streaks emerge from the material's own reaction and the work of the hand, so no piece ever repeats another exactly — a natural quality of handcrafted work. Its slim proportion fills a narrow stretch of wall well: beside a doorway, in a hall, along a stairwell or in a living room, where its vertical rhythm and quiet narrative draw the eye without dominating the space.
