Sunflower — Sculpture on Plinth
Details
Sunflower is a two-part composition: an open chalice-like frame rising from a solid base in two slender tapered arms, and a round disc mounted on a thin stem at its very centre. The disc carries a turquoise mineral patina, and the golden crescents cut into it form a spinning rosette around a small sphere — the shape appears to turn, though it stands perfectly still. The outer frame is finished in a deep cobalt blue with a clouded texture, while its inner edges reveal a warm orange-gold layer that lights the piece from within. A dark stone plinth closes the composition and underlines its symmetry.
The sculpture is handmade — cast, assembled and patinated in layers, with no serial production involved. The depth of the patina, the distribution of the blues and the intensity of the golden highlights arise from the material's own reaction and from hand-finishing, so no two pieces are identical — a natural quality of handcrafted work. The piece presents well on a console, a sideboard, a desk or in a display cabinet, where directional light brings out the contrast of turquoise, cobalt and gold.
