Shoal — Suspended Installation

Shoal is a set of undulating glass panels suspended on nearly invisible filaments at varying heights and angles. Each element has an irregular, wave-cut outline and a softly twisted surface, so the group reads like a school of rays or wings caught in slow motion. The glass stays within a range of blues — from deep ink navy along the edges to a pale, almost transparent azure at the centre of each sheet — with a faint pattern of striations and bubbles held inside the material. Light passes through the panels and casts soft, diffused shadows on the wall, which become a second, moving part of the composition.

The installation is handmade — every panel hot-formed, bent and finished individually, with no serial production involved. The shape of the waves, the depth of the colour and the pattern of the internal striations arise from the glass reacting to heat and to the work of the hand, so no element and no set is ever repeated exactly — a natural quality of handcrafted work. The composition works best where there is natural or directional light and a clear pale wall behind it: in a tall hallway, above a stairwell, in a display window, a reception area or over a dining table. The number and arrangement of the elements can be adapted to the height of the interior.
