Sentinels — Standing Sculpture

Sentinels is a pair of extremely slender vertical forms rising from a small square base. Each begins as a thin, almost linear stem, widening higher up into a flat blade-like plane and ending in a short, set-back post. The two elements differ in height and in the rhythm of their breaks, which creates a quiet tension between them — they read as two separate, silent presences standing watch. The surface carries a dark plum-brown patina with a fine vertical striation that lightens along the edges, giving the metal the look of old, weathered timber.

The sculpture is handmade — each element forged, shaped and patinated individually, with no serial production involved. The surface texture, the depth of the patina and the exact course of the breaks depend on the work of the tool, so no piece ever repeats another exactly — a natural quality of handcrafted work. The tall, narrow silhouette needs a pale background and clear space around it: it works well on a sideboard, a console, a plinth or directly on the floor against a wall, in a minimal living room, a hallway or a representative space.
