Seed — Tabletop Sculpture

Seed is a full oval volume cut by a deep cleft that curls inward into a soft spiral, leaving a bright opening at the heart of the form. The silhouette is closed and weighty, yet the interior of the cut lends it lightness — the sculpture looks like something organic, caught in the act of opening. The surface carries a matte, milky white with a faint diagonal trace of the tool across it; it doesn't reflect light but gathers it gently, so the transitions between the swells stay soft while the shadow inside the cleft is deep and clean.

The sculpture is handmade — shaped, smoothed and finished in stages, with no serial production involved. The curve of the spiral, the depth of the cut and the pattern of the texture all follow the movement of the hand, so no piece ever repeats another exactly — a natural quality of handcrafted work. The form looks best displayed on its own on a wooden top, a sideboard, a low shelf or a dining table, where the contrast between warm timber and cool white brings out its organic character.
