Scale — Decorative Sculpture

Scale is a plump, friendly fish form with a rounded body, a simplified head marked by a single small eye and short, stubby fins. The back and sides are covered with hundreds of hand-laid raised scales in two tones of blue — from deep ink navy to a pale, sun-faded sky — set in an irregular rhythm that shimmers like the surface of water. The warm, sandy and lightly granular base is left bare across the head, belly and fins, giving the composition a calm counterpoint to the intensity of the colour.

The sculpture is handmade — shaped by hand, with every scale applied and coloured individually, and no serial production involved. The distribution of the tones, the arrangement of the scales and the small irregularities along their edges all come from the work of the hand, so no piece ever repeats another exactly — a natural quality of handcrafted work. The form looks well on a sideboard, a shelf, a window ledge or in a bathroom, bringing a lively maritime accent to Mediterranean, rustic and coastal interiors.
