Grain of Light — Standing Sculpture

Grain of Light is a pair of crescent steel blades that rise from a round base, cross low near the foot and lean toward one another, enclosing a tall almond-shaped void between them. That void is the heart of the composition — the form draws it with its edges rather than filling it. One arm passes over the other and runs out past the outline in a thin tapered point, breaking the symmetry and introducing movement. The surface carries a natural, densely mottled rust patina in shades of chestnut and burnt red, matte and coarse in character.

The sculpture is handmade — the blades cut, shaped, welded and finished individually, with no serial production involved. The rust patina forms through the material's own reaction, so its distribution, depth and tone differ on every piece — a natural quality of handcrafted work. The form needs a pale background to fill its inner opening: it looks well on a console, a sideboard, a wide window ledge or a plinth in a spacious interior, and equally on a sheltered terrace or in a winter garden.
